Tuareg Camp
Tuareg Camp
PHOTOGRAPHER: PATRICK JAMES MICHEL
The Tuareg people call themselves “imajeghhen” (noble and free). “Life is simple in the desert, your priority but to keep your animals alive. There are no problems and no hassles. We are free to go where we want when we want with having to worries about whatsoever.” This was Mohammed’s answer when I asked him why the nomads live in the desert. With climate change, oases are more and more rare to find and it is becoming difficult for the animals to survive in the desert, in consequence it is being more difficult for the nomads as well. Despite it all the Touaregs stay confident: “once the rain comes back the nomads will return to the desert.”
