I know the feeling of being away from everything you know, places, people, different skies, different language, different lights. You belong to the earth, to this planet and nothing more. In those situations, newspapers are sometimes the only way to relate to what you know. This feeling of solitude is even more disconcerting under the very bright sun, where everything should look so clear but is so dusky and confusing. Hitchcock used this technique in north by NW when Cary Grant is waiting for a supposed meeting in a deserted road under the implacable sun.
