Brian Bowen Smith shot this photograph as part of his series Drivebys as he arrives in New York City during the pandemic, after having traveled from California to Texas and Louisiana to document the soul of the American culture through the windows of his 1958 Ford F100 truck during those hard times. This image encapsulates the achievement of such a trip in a vintage car, the excitement of what New York City represents, and the uncertainty of going to such a big city during the confinement.
